A Great Soap and A Fantastic Shave!
So what do you think about tallow? Are you a fan or not? I personally like tallow shave soap but I am also a fan of non tallow soap as well. To make a long story short tallow is rendered from beef suet. The biggest question to ask your self is not do you know where tallow comes from but rather do you want your shaving soap to contain tallow. My answer would be yes. In my opinion tallow soap provides great cushion and slickness as well as enhances moisturization for your skin. I recently had the opportunity to try the tallow and mango Butter based shave soap from Turtleshipshave.com all of their soaps are handmade using the highest quality ingredients. If you are indeed a tallow fan then you are going to want to try their soap for your self. I couldn’t wait to get started and anticipated the arrival of the soaps from TurtleShip Shave. I’ve had good luck with tallow based soaps so I was hoping to have the same experience with these soaps as well. The package containing my new soaps arrived shortly in the mail and when I opened the box the contents inside were as followed. I received a 4 oz. plastic container of Lime, Bay Rum and Pine shave soap. The round plastic containers were clear and thick giving them a substantial feeling in your hands. The clear plastic lid screws off/on with a tight seal and makes the round plastic containers easy to store when not in use. I also received two small sample tins of Coconut and Tea Java soap as well.
I couldn’t decide which soap to start with first since all of their soaps are made with the same natural ingredients of Tallow, Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Abyssinian Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Glycerin, Goat Milk, Lanolin, Raw Honey, Tussah Silk, Aloe Vera, Water, Essential Oils and/or Fragrance. These natural ingredients help soften and sooth dry, cracked skin while rehydrating increasing moisturization. These natural ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that help decrease inflammation from bug bites and stings, these ingredients are also good for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles fighting the signs of aging. I was particularly excited about one specific ingredient found in all of their soaps. Raw honey has so many benefits for your skin it’s not the question of when rather than why aren’t you using it on your skin. Raw honey is full of anti-oxidants making it antimicrobial, can help heal burns and wounds, can help fight infections, helps fight acne and fade acne scars, softens chapped lips, cleanses and treat dry skin, helps keep your skin moisturized and creates a nice warm glow. These were just a few examples of the benefits of raw honey for your skin. The only difference between the soaps is the fragrance or essential oils that are used specifically to create a certain fragrance
I decided to try the Bay Rum first. This decision was purely based on my liking for the Bay Rum scent which is beloved by many shavers abroad. I removed the lid from the plastic container to let my new Bay Rum soap breathe a little bit before I used it. Each night I used a different soap and followed suite with removing the lid first to permeate the air in my bathroom with the chosen fragrance for the night. The aroma from each soap was mild and not overwhelming. The Bay Rum, Tea Java and Coconut soap contain fragranced mixed with essential oils compared to the Lemon and Pine soap that just use essential oils for fragrance. The Lemon, Pine and Bay Rum soaps that came in the 4 oz. plastic containers are hardened bodied soaps that took less than 2 minutes of brush rotations to create a lather. There was plenty of room in the same container as the soap to finish turning that lather into a robust and creamy shave ready lather that provided each shave with a lot of cushion and slickness for my razor. The Coconut and TeJava soap came in little sample tins so I used the pressed method which is where you press a small amount of the soap on the bottom of your shave bowl and start rotating your brush to build lather. The end result was the same, the lather was just as thick and creamy as the lather created from the plastic containers. I would recommend the TurtleShip soaps to any new or experienced shaver. I had a great time reviewing their products. The shave soaps from TurtleShipShave.Com are approved by TheBaldNation for our Bald Nation and all those in between. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.
